இந்த புராண நிகழ்வு நடந்த இடம் திருக்கொறுக்கை தலமாகும்.
சிவபெருமான் தியானத்தில் இருக்கும்போது உலக நன்மைக்காக அவர் தியானத்தை கலைக்க வேண்டும் என்று இந்திரன் கேட்டுக் கொண்டதற்கு இணங்கி மன்மதன் இறைவனின் மீது மலர்க்கணைகளைத் தொடுத்தான். அப்போதும் இறைவன் தமது நெற்றிக் கண்ணைத் திறந்து மன்மதனைப் பார்க்க அந்த நெற்றிக்கண்ணிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்ட நெருப்பில் மன்மதன் எரிந்து சாம்பலானான். பிறகு மன்மதனின் மனைவியான ரதி தேவி இறைவனை வேண்டிக்கொள்ள உருவமில்லாத அருவமாக மன்மதனை மறுபடியும் உயிர்ப்பித்துக் கொடுத்தார்.

" When Lord Shiva was in deep meditation in order for the benefit of the people of the world Lord Indra wanted Lord Manmadhan (God of Love) to disturb the meditation of Lord Shiva and he aimed the cupid's arrows of flowers on Lord Shiva. At that instant Lord Shiva opened His third eye and burnt Manmadhan with its fire and he turned to ashes. Later upon pleading by Rathi Devi,the wife of Manmadhan, to get her husband back to life, He again brought him to life and made him visible only to his wife and not others. "

உலக நன்மைக்காக இன்னொரு உயிரை உருவாக்க தனது துணையுடன் சேரும் உயிர்கள் இறைவனை அடைய தடையாய் இருக்கும் காமம் என்னும் நோயில் சிக்காமல் இருக்க இறைவனை அடைய வேண்டும் என்ற குறிக்கோளுடன் ஒரு நிலைப்பட்ட மனமுடன் இறைவனை வேண்ட இறைவன் காமம் என்னும் நோயிலிருந்து உயிரை காப்பாற்றி உலக நன்மைக்காக இன்னொரு உடலுடன் கூடிய உயிரை உருவாக்க மட்டுமே இறை எண்ணத்துடன் தன்னுடைய துணையுடன் சேரும் உயிருக்கு அருந்தவ யோகத்தை அருளுவார்.

" In order for the good of the world and for creation of another life Lord Shiva blesses those living beings who unite with their partners for this purpose and also protects them from getting stuck into the disease of Lust if they pray Him to attain Him as the goal in their life. He also blesses this Yogic union with Him only to those couples who unite only for the sake of begetting children for the benefit of the world. "
